Today via Jennifer Bohnet on her Facebook page posting, Saturday Surprise, I announced the title of my new novel. This is the one that was called, The Man in Room Eighteen. Here is the post I sent her:
Recently I read a Facebook post by another author. She announced her up and coming title, and to my horror it was nearly identical to my current wip. Not wishing to look as if I had copied the idea, I decided to change the title which I had announced back in 2010. Now, when you have lived with a title that long, it is not easy to remove it from the brain, so I didn’t relish the idea of creating a new one. My titles are usually the first thing I have when a new novel springs to mind, I never really have to create them. So, one morning I set about writing a list of ideas, and drove myself insane. Nothing would ‘click’ with me, and all I could ‘hear’ was the original title whenever I thought of the book.
I walked the beach, sat on a bench where my father is now resting, (he passed away a year ago, and I find myself talking to him when I need guidance), and chatted on about my frustrations with regard to the title change. When I rose to return home, I saw something glint in the rose bed where his ashes are scattered. It was a shiny penny.
BAM! The title came to me, and I love it more than the original. Today, I will share it with the world, and release the book in the New Year.
Introducing … The Penny Portrait.
