Maggie’s Child sales have been good this past week, and earned me enough to join, ALLi. The Alliance of Independent Authors, made their mark at, The London Book Fair 2014. It is with regret I never got to hear the speeches, but I know they rocked the place, and were amazing. Orna Ross, founded ALLi, and here she is reciting a couple of her poems at the fair …
Here is one of the new friends I made when I went to London for the pre-fair drink. Carol Cooper …
And here we have my dear friend, Jessica Bell, reading from her novel, Bitter Like Orange Peel … Language warning …
The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) is a non-profit, professional association for self-publishing writers quartered at The Free Word Centre in London, with members and followers all over the world.
The organisation was founded by Orna Ross, a bestselling author, and launched at London Book Fair 2012 to offer advice, support, education, contacts and community to author-publishers. Its global team of advisors and partners work together within and outside the publishing industry to encourage success and foster ethics and excellence in self-publishing.
Our mission is the democratisation of publishing through community, partnership and author empowerment.
I have followed the ALLi team, and several of its members for sometime now, and author, Jessica Bell, suggested I consider joining. When I met up with her in London, she mentioned it again. To be honest, after moving back to the UK, the costings of moving overseas and settling took a lot of funds, and anything writing related takes a back seat unless royalties dictate otherwise. So far, Maggie’s Child has paved the way for many events in 2014, and I am proud of the book, and love the readers who have made my writing life more than a dream.
Independent Authors … we exist. Yes, if an agent/publisher showed interest, I would listen but I am proud to wear the Indie badge.
The saga idea has bloomed a tad more, and ideas are arriving in this pea-brain, daily. It is exciting. I have enough work to keep me writing for years, and still hang around with, Maggie for a few of them.
With the knowledge that I have been accepted into, ALLi, and have the support of a prestigious family of authors, I have given myself permission to relax and enjoy the fact I AM AN AUTHOR OF BOOKS. Phew. I said it. My family and friends tell me I am too timid, and need to show a bit of backbone. Me? I just enjoy being the tortoise, and gathering friends who hang around for my scribbles. As far as I am concerned, I am at the top of my tree, any higher … well, I’ve reached the stars, and that is for the future. For now, I am content, and I wear my badge with pride.
This all looks great, Glynis – such fun! Thanks for sharing.

Yay! I get Alli’s emails regularly and it’s fun to know you’re a member now!
I have had the emails for over a year now, Deniz, and often thought about joining. Now I am a member it is another box ticked in my writing life. Thanks for visiting me today. X
That’s really interesting, Glynis. I feel a bit out of it in the UK, as most of my contacts now are either US or Australia based, so I should do a lot more networking in the UK. Maybe this is it. I’ll check it out.
(and thank you Chris TSRA for re-blogging your post!)
Jemima
They are at the top of my list to join, but like you I am not awash with cash. Unlike you my books sell about as well as an opportunity to travel to the top of the world’s tallest building in a lift with the world’s fartiest man. So nice job on your sales and a big pat on the back. 🙂
Cheers
MTM
🙂 Thanks. Hope your dreams come true!
