Meet the Character: Elle Buchanan

Meet the character; Elle Buchanan.

Elle is my main POV from the book, The Penny Portrait. I thought you might like to meet her.

elle2Welcome, Elle. You remind me of the actress, Saoirse (Sear-sha) Ronan.

My thanks for your welcome, and my life.

A woman is never encouraged to divulge her age, would you care to break the rules?

Gladly. I turned just 16 years on the eve of all Hallows,1865.

Ah, a Halloween baby the same as me.

What do your parents do for a living?

My parents, should you wish to call the two people who brought me into the world by that name, work wherever there is work available. Both work the fields and farms in the county of Essex, in England. Now I am of age, I am encouraged to do the same. We earn enough for our basic needs, and the rent, or should I say, did. Sadly, my parents have abandoned me, and I am left to survive alone. They had no love for me.

How do you pay the rent, and support yourself?

Inspiration Elle homeI ran away from the landlord, and am now in hiding. The hovel I reside in now is not subject to rent payments.

As for food, I forage the shoreline and fields. My Inspiration for novelsgrandmother taught me the way of herbs, and I can eat for free. However, you have kindly introduced a hero to ensure my survival of other worldly needs.

Other than working in the field, what skills do you have?

382-1-en-0d0646b6b40ab7fbc7f9a158644fec07Ah, many say I have a keen eye and a gifted hand. I make small drawings on scrap materials with charcoal. One such drawing becomes an opening door for my artistic ways.

Do you have a husband? a lover?

I have no time for romance, my time is spent on survival. My innocence in life due to the lack of parenting does find me in an emotional dilemma. A wealthy young man has a desire, and I am unsure as to what his intentions are. His father, now, there’s a story to tell.

I have a habit of being unkind to my female characters. How would you say your life fairs in my hands?

Glynis, you make my life hard, and often unforgivingly cruel. No one character is cruel, just life in general. Your need to kill off a few folk often has me wondering when is it my turn. I am still uncertain whether love will come my way, and you appear to have no intention to reveal the outcome of events.

Thank you, Elle. Now please climb back into my other world, and leave me to write another path for you to follow.

The Penny Portrait: Historical romance – due for release, December 2014 – characters willing!
